Ammannia senegalensis Ammannia senegalensis

Use: Centerpiece
Pruning: Cut and replant tops
Propagation: Cut just above a leaf node and new shoots will form at the cut. Replant the new plants when they are of good size.
Notes: Tempermental plant; prefers low nitrates (good indicator plant). Good light brings out reddish colors.

Environent: Discus tank

Anubias coffeeafolia Anubias coffeeafolia

Use: Centerpiece, background, filler
Pruning: Cut rhizomes to desired size
Propagation: Cut rhizomes into desired pieces
Notes: Very decorative with a pleasing dark green color and distinctive ridged leaves. Relatively fast growing for an Anubias stays under 6" high.

Environent: Dwarf rainbowfish tank

Bacopa monnierii Bacopa monnierii

Use: Accent, background, filler
Pruning: Cut tops and replant
Propagation: Cut just above a leaf node and new shoots will form at the cut. Replant the new plants when they are of good size.
Notes: Great accent plant with a bright green color. Produces submerses pale purple flowers under good conditions.

Environent: Dwarf rainbowfish tank

Bolbitis heudelotii Bolbitis heudelotii

Use: Accent, background, filler
Pruning: Cut older sections off rhizome
Propagation: Cut rhizomes into desired pieces
Notes: Newer sections make a nice accent plant with a bright green color. Older section take on a very dark green.

Environent: Dwarf rainbowfish tank

Cryptocoryne blassii Cryptocoryne blassii

Use: Background
Pruning: Remove unwanted plants by cutting substrate runners .
Propagation: Self-propagating via substrate rhizomes/runners. Cut plants from runners and replant to form new chains.
Notes: Large crypt with brilliant purple underleaves. Can be a pest as it slowly spreads throughout the tank.

Environment: Dwarf rainbowfish tank

Cryptocoryne wendtii Cryptocoryne wendtii

Use: Centerpiece, background, filler
Pruning: Remove unwanted plants by cutting substrate runners .
Propagation: Self-propagating via substrate rhizomes/runners. Cut plants from runners and replant to form new chains.
Notes: Medium size crypt with crinkled leaves. This appears to be "variety 405" from Dennerle. Can be a pest as it slowly spreads throughout the tank.

Environment: 120 gallon rainbowfish tank

Echinodrus species Echinodorus species

Use: Forground
Pruning: Uproot overgrown mass, trim runners and replant most robust individuals
Propagation: Trim new plants from runners and replant. .
Notes: Narrow leaf version of E. quadricostatus. Stays about 3" tall.

Environent: Discus tank

Echinodorus quadricostatus Echinodorus quadricostatus

Use: Forground
Pruning: Uproot overgrown mass, trim runners and replant most robust individuals
Propagation: Trim new plants from runners and replant. .
Notes: Grows to variable sizes. When conditions are right, can get over 8" tall.

Environent: Discus tank

Echinodorus tenellus Echinodorus tenellus

Use: Forground
Pruning: Uproot overgrown mass, trim runners and replant most robust individuals
Propagation: Trim new plants from runners and replant. .
Notes: Stays relatively small. Blade colors ranges from light to green and rusty red.

Environent: Discus tank

Eichhornia azurea Eichhornia azurea

Use: Centerpiece, background
Pruning: Cut and replant tops
Propagation: Cut just above a leaf node and new shoots will form at the cut. Replant the new plants when they are of good size.
Notes: Fast grower, very impressive. Nice 2-dimensional shape

Environent: Discus tank

Eleocharis acicularis Eleocharis acicularis

Use: Forground
Pruning: Pruning isn't needed since it is a slow spreading plant. If needed, uproot overgrown mass and replant sections that are healthy
Propagation: Separate a section from the main mass and replant elsewhere
Notes: Stays relatively small and spreads slowly

Environent: Dwarf rainbowfish tank

Eusteralis stellata Eusteralis stellata

Use: Accent, background, filler
Pruning: Cut tops and replant
Propagation: Cut just above a leaf node and new shoots will form at the cut. Replant the new plants when they are of good size.
Notes: Great accent plant with a bright green color. Forms a dense cluster if planted in bunches. Very attractive plant to offset big leaved, dark plants like Anubias. Prefers low nitrates (good indicator plant).

Environent: Discus tank

Hydrocotle leucocephala Hydrocotyle leucocephala

Use: Floating
Pruning: Cut off the strong new growth and replant the cut end. Let it trail across the surface.
Propagation: Separate a section from the main stem and replant
Notes: Fast grower. This photo is from underneath showing the roots at each leaf node. Leaves look like miniature lily pads from above. Makes a great spawing medium for rainbowfish and other egg scatterers

Environent: Dwarf rainbowfish tank

Hydrocotyle ramunoides Hydrocotyle ramunoides

Use: Floating
Pruning: Cut off the strong new growth and replant the cut end. Let it trail across the surface.
Propagation: Separate a section from the main stem and replant
Notes: Fast grower. Like H. leucocephala except larger with longer petioles. This photo is from underneath showing the roots at each leaf node.

Environent: Dwarf rainbowfish tank

Hydrocotyle sibthorpiodies Hydrocotyle sibthorpiodies

Use: Foreground accent
Pruning: Remove unwanted sections as needed
Propagation: Separate a section from the main stem and replant
Notes: Slow spreader and delicate. Easily uprooted by foragers.

Environent: Discus tank

Lobelia cardinalis Lobelia cardinalis

Use: Accent, filler
Pruning: Cut top from heavy rooted stem and replant
Propagation: Cut just above a leaf node and new shoots will form at the cut. Replant the new plants when they are of good size.
Notes: Great accent plant with a bright green color. Grows slowly but is big and bold.

Environent: Dwarf rainbowfish tank

Ludwigia repens Ludwigia Repens

Use: Accent, filler
Pruning: Cut and replant tops.
Propagation: Cut just above a leaf node and new shoots will form at the cut. Replant the new plants when they are of good size.
Notes: Undemanding plant. Good light will produce redleaves on top. Tricky to aquascape with since it grows upward and outward at about the same rate, shading lower plants around it.

Environent: Dwarf rainbowfish tank

Microsorium pteropus Microsorium pteropus

Use: Accent, background, filler
Pruning: Cut older sections off rhizome
Propagation: Cut rhizomes into desired pieces
Notes: Makes a nice accent plant with a bright green color. Good oxygenator under bright light and CO2.

Environent: Dwarf rainbowfish tank, Discus tank

Rotala macrandra Rotala macrandra

Use: Centerpiece
Pruning: Cut and replant tops.
Propagation: Cut just above a leaf node and new shoots will form at the cut. Replant the new plants when they are of good size.
Notes: Demanding plant. Good light will produce red, pink and magenta coloration throughout. Leaves are very delicate. This can be a magnificent plant under good conditions.

Environent: Large rainbowfish tank

Rotala rotundifolia Rotala rotundifolia

Use: Centerpiece, background, filler
Pruning: Cut and replant tops. Occasionally uproot the whole mass and replant the most robust stems.
Propagation: Self-propagating. Will quickly spread via lower strems that grow horizontally, sprout roots and anchor themselves. New vertical stems will grow from the horizontal ones.
Notes: Undemanding plant. Good light will produce reddish leaves on top. Delicate appearance is a good counter-point to larger plants.

Environent: Dwarf rainbowfish tank

Sagitarria pusilla Sagittarria pusilla

Use: Foreground
Pruning: Uproot overgrown mass, trim runners and replant most robust individuals
Propagation: Trim new plants from runners and replant. .
